Especially in case of fluctuating cloudiness when the light intensity is constantly changing, a ultra-fast MPPT will yield more than a conventional PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) charge controller: up to 30% more energy generation and up to 10% more in case of slow MPPT controllers.
Advanced Maximum Power Point Detection under shading conditions
In case of shading, when one or more power cells become partially or completely shaded, the minimum string voltage will drop. The MPPT algorithm will try to find the optimum power point under these conditions. The conventional algorithms tend to get stuck on a locally optimum power point which may not be the optimum power point under all conditions. The innovative SmartSolar algorithm will always maximize the energy harvest by getting stuck on the optimum power point.
