The MultiPlus combines a converter and a charger in a single casing. Among its many functions, it includes a pure sine wave inverter, adaptive charging, hybrid PowerAssist technology, as well as multiple system integration functions.
The MultiPlus combines a powerful sine wave inverter, a sophisticated charger with adaptive charging technology, and an ultra-fast AC transfer switch in a single compact unit. In addition to these basic functions, the MultiPlus offers many advanced features described below.
The main output has an uninterrupted power supply function. In the event of a grid failure or disconnection from shore or generator power, the MultiPlus takes over powering the connected loads. This transfer is so fast (less than 20 milliseconds) that the operation of computers or other sensitive electronic equipment connected will not be disrupted. The second output is only energized when AC power is available at the MultiPlus input. High-power loads, such as a water heater for example, can be connected to this output (second output available on models 3 kVA and above). Virtually unlimited power thanks to parallel operation Up to 6 Multi units can operate in parallel to achieve higher output power.
In addition to parallel connection, three units can be configured for a three-phase output. But that's not all: with three strings of six units in parallel, a 45 kW / 54 kVA three-phase inverter and a 1260 A charger can be installed.
Two units can be stacked to provide 120-0-120 V, and additional units can be mounted in parallel up to a total of 6 units per phase to power up to 30 kW/36 kVA from a split-phase supply. Alternatively, a split-phase AC source can be obtained by connecting our autotransformer (see datasheet at www.victronenergy.com) to a "European" inverter programmed to supply 240 V/60 Hz.
The MultiPlus features a very powerful battery charger that draws high currents from shore or generator connections (nearly 20 A per 3 kVA MultiPlus at 120 VAC). The Multi Control control panel allows limiting the power to be supplied by the shore or generator. The MultiPlus will then take into account the other AC loads and will only use the excess for charging, thus avoiding any overload of the shore or generator supply.
This function adds an extra dimension to the PowerControl principle by allowing the MultiPlus to supplement the capacity of the alternative source. In case of peak power demand, often required for a short duration, the MultiPlus will ensure that insufficient generator or shore power is compensated by additional power from the battery. And when the demand decreases, the excess power is used to recharge the batteries.
The main output provides powerful charging to the battery system thanks to sophisticated "adaptive charging" software. The software adjusts the three stages of the automatic process to suit the battery's condition, and adds a fourth for long "float" charging periods. The adaptive charging process is detailed in the Phoenix Charger datasheet and on our website, in the Technical Information section. In addition, the MultiPlus will charge a second battery using a compensation charge output intended for a main engine or generator starter battery.
System configuration has never been easier; once installed, the MultiPlus is ready to use. If settings need to be changed, it can be done in minutes with a DIP switch setting procedure. Even parallel or three-phase operation can be programmed with DIP switches: no computer is needed!
Alternatively, VE.Net can be used instead of DIP switches.
Sophisticated software (VE.Bus Quick Configure and VE.Bus System Configurator) is available to configure several new and advanced functions.
